Nelson Eyes Title Shot in Zambian Showdown
Ghanaian bantamweight Michael Decardi Nelson will get another crack at international honours when he squares off against Zambia’s undefeated David “Sniper” Mwale for the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) International Bantamweight title.
The highly anticipated bout is set to take place on Saturday, May 24, at the Government Complex in Lusaka, Zambia.
For 22-year-old Nelson [8-1, 6 KOs], this represents a significant opportunity to bounce back after his first professional defeat six months ago.
The Ghanaian travelled to India in November 2024 to challenge for the WBC Youth World Bantamweight title but ultimately fell short against Laldinsanga Laldinsanga [10-0, 6 KOs].

Nelson’s journey to this title shot began impressively in 2020, as he built an undefeated record in his first nine fights.
A highlight of this early success was securing the Ghanaian national bantamweight title in 2022 with a unanimous decision victory over Raymond Commey [22-26, 13 KOs]. His strong domestic performances paved the way for his first international title challenge.
Now, the determined Ghanaian fighter will be aiming for second time lucky against the experienced Mwale [9-0, 5 KOs]. The 26-year-old Zambian has yet to fight outside of his home country since turning professional in 2018.
Mwale, nicknamed “Sniper,” will undoubtedly be looking to capitalise on his home advantage. The Government Complex in Lusaka holds special significance for him, having been the venue for his professional debut against Wiseman Chuma [0-1, 0 KOs].
It was also where he clinched the African Boxing Union (ABU) African Bantamweight title against Innocent Mantengu [15-9, 5 KOs] and subsequently defended it against James Mugeni [6-2, 5 KOs] and Kouassi Martin Klaklevi [7-2, 6 KOs].

This upcoming clash promises to be a compelling contest between a hungry Ghanaian challenger seeking redemption on foreign soil and an unbeaten Zambian champion eager to make a statement in front of his home fans.
Boxing enthusiasts will be keenly watching to see if Nelson can overcome the odds and bring the WBC International Bantamweight title back to Ghana or if Mwale will continue his undefeated streak and solidify his reputation as a formidable force in the bantamweight division.
