In a thrilling finale at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, Kumasi Asante Kotoko secured their 10th MTN FA Cup title with a dramatic 2-1 victory over underdogs Golden Kick FC.

The Porcupine Warriors broke the deadlock in the 17th minute when striker Kwame Opoku slotted home following a slick team move, sparked by Lord Amoah’s driving run and precise set-piece delivery.

But the Division One League side refused to be unnerved, hitting back just before half-time.

Bless Ege stunned Kotoko with a spectacular free-kick, curling the ball past goalkeeper Mohamed Camara to send the teams into the break level.

The second half saw both sides waste golden chances, with Kotoko’s attack misfiring and Golden Kick threatening on the counter.

As the game edged towards extra time, drama unfolded in stoppage time when the referee pointed to the spot after Opoku was brought down in the box.

The Kotoko forward kept his cool, converting the 96th-minute penalty to complete his brace and seal a hard-fought victory for the Ghana Premier League giants.

A triumph for history books

This win not only cements Kotoko’s legacy as one of Ghana’s most successful clubs but also books their place in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup.

They now sit just one FA Cup title behind arch-rivals Hearts of Oak, who hold the record with 11 trophies.

What’s next for Kotoko?

With continental football secured, Kotoko will now shift focus to strengthening their squad ahead of next season’s GPL and African campaign.

For Golden Kick FC, their valiant effort proves they can compete with Ghana’s elite – a performance that will boost their ambitions ahead of the new season.
