Ibrahim Fuseini clocks wind-assisted 9.85 seconds to win 100m at ATX Sprint Classic
Ibrahim Fuseini delivered a blistering performance to win the men’s 100m at the ATX Sprint Classic in Texas, United States, clocking a wind-assisted 9.85 seconds in a thrilling final on Saturday, 28 June.
The 22-year-old Ghanaian sprinter, a key figure in securing his nation’s 4x100m relay qualification for the 2025 World Athletics Championships, overcame stiff competition at the Southwestern University Track Stadium to claim gold.
From heat struggles to final triumph
Fuseini’s path to victory wasn’t straightforward. He finished third in Heat 1 with a time of 10.11 seconds, trailing Bahamian Terrence Jones (10.08 seconds) and American Dapriest Hogans (10.10 seconds).
But when it mattered most, the young sprinter surged ahead, shaving a staggering 0.93 seconds off his heat time to dominate the final.
His 9.85 seconds finish—aided by a strong tailwind—edged out the United States’ David Foster (9.95 seconds) by a tenth of a second, while Hogans matched Foster’s time to take bronze.
A breakthrough season for Ghana’s rising star
Fuseini has been in scintillating form this year. In May, he set a new personal best (PB) of 10.03 seconds at the Texas Tech Corky/Crofoot Shootout—the third-fastest time by a Ghanaian in 2025 as of writing.
His latest performance in Texas, though wind-assisted, signals his growing threat on the global stage.
With the World Athletics Championships on the horizon, Fuseini’s rapid rise could make him one to watch for Ghanaian athletics fans—and a potential dark horse in international competition.
Where next for Fuseini?
As the athletics season heats up, all eyes will be on whether the young sprinter can convert his wind-assisted speed into legal sub-10-second performances.
For now, his ATX Sprint Classic victory stands as a statement of intent.
