Ghana’s para-athletics scouting drive kicks off this July
The Ghana Para Athletics Association has unveiled an ambitious nationwide talent search to uncover and develop the country’s next generation of para-athletes.
In partnership with the National Paralympic Committee (NPC-Ghana), the initiative will scout for potential stars across track and field events, including shot put, discus, javelin, high jump, long jump, and wheelchair racing.
The programme is open to individuals with visual impairments, limb amputations, cerebral palsy, and other eligible disabilities who demonstrate both passion and potential for para-sports.
Talent hunt schedule
The search will take place in two zones, with Zone 1 launching in Kumasi (Ashanti Region) on 12 July, followed by Cape Coast (Central Region) on 26 July, and Takoradi (Western Region) on 2 August.
Zone 2 begins in Koforidua (Eastern Region) on 16 August, before moving to Ho (Volta Region) on 30 August, and concluding in Accra (Greater Accra Region) on 13 September.
A major boost for Ghana’s para-sports
This initiative represents a significant step forward for para-athletics development in Ghana, providing a structured pathway for athletes to progress from grassroots to international competitions.
With para-sports gaining momentum worldwide, the programme could be a launchpad for future Paralympians and world-class competitors.
