Ghana’s beach volleyball teams aim for glory in Morocco
Ghana’s national men’s and women’s beach volleyball teams have completed their final training sessions ahead of the 2025 CAVB Beach Volleyball Continental Championship in Morocco, where they will battle for a spot at the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships in Australia.
The teams held their last drills on Tuesday, 17 June, at Laboma Beach Resort in Accra, fine-tuning their strategies before departing for the tournament, which runs from 23-30 June in Morocco.
A strong performance could secure Ghana’s place at the 2025 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships, which are set to be held from 14-23 November in Adelaide, Australia.
“Best preparation in years” – Volleyball boss confident
George Tetteh, President of the Ghana Volleyball Federation, praised the squad’s readiness, calling it the strongest build-up in recent memory.
“This is the best I’ve seen in many years,” Tetteh told reporters. “Most of our players are now competing internationally—some of them topped a major tournament in Rwanda. I have no doubt they can secure qualification in Morocco and go on to Australia.”
He added that the ultimate goal is to win the championship, backing the current squad to deliver.
Government backing & sponsorship push
Bawa Fusseini, Chairman of the Beach Volleyball Commission, highlighted the Ministry of Sports and Recreation’s crucial support, saying talks were ongoing with corporate sponsors.
“We met with the minister, and they assured us of their full support,” Fusseini said. “We’re also engaging with corporate bodies, and qualifying in Morocco will help strengthen our case for sponsorship.”
Coaches & players: “We’re ready to fight”
Men’s head coach Seidu Ajanako revealed the team’s rigorous training covered strength, defence, attack, and serving drills.
“The players have been physically, mentally, and psychologically prepared,” Ajanako said. “We’ve covered every aspect of the game, and we’re confident we can compete strongly in Morocco and qualify for the World Championship in Australia.”
On the women’s side, Juliana Otcherewaa Aryee admitted that powerhouses like Egypt, Nigeria, and Mozambique will be tough but vowed a fierce challenge.
“Egypt is the [one] leading in Africa. So Egypt, Nigeria and Mozambique – it is not going to be easy at all but we are going to fight hard and bring the medal home,” she said.
“We are mentally prepared because the training the coaches have given us has psyched us and we are ready to go and bring the medal to Ghana.”
“Ghana will dominate African volleyball soon” – The captain’s bold prediction
Acting men’s captain Kelvin Caboo praised the federation’s leadership and predicted a bright future.
“With the kind of leadership we have now, the president and the board, I see a huge impact on the volleyball team because they are doing a good work,” Caboo said.
“Even the young players are improving fast. In the next five years, I believe Ghana will be at the top of African volleyball.”
What’s next?
The teams now head to Morocco, where a top finish could see them make history by securing Ghana’s place at the 2025 World Championships.
