Arsenal are on the verge of securing a major summer signing, with a deal for Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi now in its final stages.

The Gunners have reportedly triggered the 26-year-old’s £51m release clause and are now finalising personal terms before the Spain international undergoes a medical.

Mikel Arteta’s side have been long-term admirers of Zubimendi, who was close to joining Liverpool last summer before opting to stay in LaLiga.

With Jorginho set to depart for Flamengo and Thomas Partey’s future still under discussion, the Sociedad star could be the first piece in Arsenal’s midfield rebuild.

Why Zubimendi?

A composed, technically gifted defensive midfielder, Zubimendi has been a standout performer for Sociedad, helping them secure Champions League football during the 2023/2024 season.

His ability to dictate play and break up opposition attacks has made him one of Europe’s most sought-after midfielders.

Arsenal explored a move last year but shelved interest due to squad depth. Now, with space opening up, the North London club has moved swiftly to land their man.

What’s next?

Once the formalities are completed, Zubimendi will become Arsenal’s first major signing of the summer as they look to mount another Premier League title challenge.

Fans will be eager to see if more reinforcements follow, with a new striker also rumoured to be on Arteta’s wishlist.
