Paris Saint-Germain secured their place in the FIFA Club World Cup knockout stages with a comfortable 2-0 win over Seattle Sounders in front of a packed crowd at Lumen Field.

The reigning UEFA Champions League holders broke the deadlock in the 35th minute in somewhat fortuitous fashion.

Vitinha’s powerful 20-yard strike seemed destined to fly wide—until it took a crucial deflection off Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s back, wrong-footing Sounders goalkeeper Stefan Frei.

PSG doubled their lead in the 66th minute with a ruthless counter-attack. Bradley Barcola surged forward before teeing up Achraf Hakimi, who smashed home from close range to seal the victory.

Luis Enrique’s side dominated large spells of the match, with young midfielder Désiré Doué testing Frei three times.

Seattle’s best opportunity came early when Gianluigi Donnarumma gifted possession to Jesús Ferreira, but the forward blazed over from a tight angle.

What’s next?

With this win, PSG finish top of Group B and will face the runners-up of Group A—likely to be Brazil’s Palmeiras or Inter Miami, led by Lionel Messi.

The knockout clash promises to be a blockbuster as Les Parisiens chase their first-ever Club World Cup title.
