Excitement is building ahead of Ghana’s inaugural Deaf Tennis Festival, set to take place on 30 May at the Borteyman Sports Complex in Accra.

In preparation, the PM Sports Foundation – organisers of the event – hosted a groundbreaking Deaf Tennis Coaches Education Training workshop on Monday, 26 May, at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The session equipped local coaches with specialised techniques to train and communicate effectively with deaf athletes, ensuring an inclusive sporting environment.

Through hands-on demonstrations and expert-led discussions, participants learnt how to adapt traditional coaching methods to meet the needs of deaf players.

A push for inclusivity

The PM Sports Foundation, an advocate for sports accessibility, stressed the importance of empowering coaches to support deaf athletes.

All attendees will receive official certification at the end of the festival, further strengthening Ghana’s capacity for inclusive sports development.

“We’re thrilled to share the incredible momentum building around our Deaf Tennis programme,” the foundation shared on social media.

“This session brought our dedicated coaches together to learn, share experiences from school visits, and build on the passion that drives this initiative. The energy? Absolutely electric. The team is more than ready!”

What to expect at the Deaf Tennis Festival

The upcoming festival promises to be a vibrant celebration of athleticism, communication, and inclusion, bringing together deaf tennis players from across Greater Accra and beyond.

Spectators can expect dynamic matches, skill showcases, and a powerful display of Ghana’s commitment to accessible sports.

As anticipation grows, the PM Sports Foundation hopes the event will inspire further investment in para-sports and disability-inclusive programmes nationwide.
