Ghana’s national beach volleyball teams began their 2025 CAVB Beach Volleyball Continental Championship campaign with a mix of triumphs and setbacks on Tuesday, 25 June, as they battled on the sands of Martil Beach in Morocco.

Men’s team shines with two wins

The Ghanaian men’s team, competing in Pools G and H, delivered a strong opening performance, securing two victories before suffering a narrow defeat.

Emmanuel Adamitey and Nicholas Tetteh (Pool H) got off to a flying start, overpowering Burundi 2-0 (22-20, 21-11) in a dominant display.

Their compatriots in Pool G, Paul Akan and Abdul Hameed Ibrahim, kept the momentum going with a convincing 2-0 win over regional rivals Nigeria (21-18, 21-15).

However, the day ended on a tough note as Adamitey and Tetteh fell to a resilient Benin side (25-23, 21-19) in a hard-fought match.

Despite the loss, Ghana remains well-placed to progress in the tournament.

Women’s team shows fighting spirit

The Ghanaian women, drawn in Pools E and F, had a mixed day. Grace Dagadu and Joana Mensah (Pool F) faced tough opposition, suffering defeats against The Gambia (21-16, 22-20) and Rwanda (21-13, 21-10).

But there was joy for Rashaka Katadat and Benedicta Akorli (Pool E), who secured a crucial 2-0 victory over Burundi (22-20, 21-14), keeping Ghana’s hopes alive in the women’s competition.
