Elmina Sharks Officials Banned and Fined After Match Day Misconduct
Five officials from Division One League (DOL) side Elmina Sharks have been hit with bans for the rest of the season and hefty fines following a disciplinary hearing.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) Disciplinary Committee delivered its verdict after investigating incidents that occurred during Elmina Sharks’ league match against Swedru All Blacks United FC on February 16, 2025.
George Wiredu, Seth Armstrong, Kelvin Aboagye, Joshua Kyibazah, and Kingsley Arthur were all found guilty of serious misconduct. The charges relate to their actions after a penalty decision during the game.
The GFA ruled that the five officials unlawfully entered the pitch to confront the match officials. Furthermore, they were found to have incited violence and attempted to physically assault the referees following the final whistle.
As a result of their actions, each of the five individuals has been fined GH₵10,000. More significantly, they are all prohibited from participating in any football-related activities for the remainder of the current season.
The GFA Disciplinary Committee also issued a stern warning to the sanctioned officials, stating that any future instances of misconduct will be met with even more severe penalties.
The sanctions mean Elmina Sharks will be without these key personnel for the remainder of the league campaign.
