Ghana’s Black Stars secured a commanding 3-0 victory over Madagascar in their FIFA World Cup qualifier in Morocco on Monday, 24 March, thanks to a sensational hat-trick of assists from Jordan Ayew.

The result propels Ghana five points clear at the top of Group I, significantly boosting their hopes of reaching the 2026 tournament in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

The Black Stars drew first blood in the 12th minute when a pinpoint free kick from Ayew was met by Thomas Partey in the heart of the Malagasy penalty area.

The Arsenal midfielder rose highest to head the ball past goalkeeper Geordan Dupire, sending the Ghanaian fans into raptures.

Despite a lively first half with chances for both sides, the score remained 1-0 heading into the break. However, Ghana emerged with renewed vigour after the interval.

Partey doubled his tally in the 54th minute, once again capitalising on an Ayew delivery. This time, it was a well-taken corner kick that found Partey, who expertly nodded the ball into the net, leaving the Madagascar defence stranded.

Just five minutes later, Ayew completed his impressive assist treble. The Leicester City forward threaded a delightful pass to West Ham United star Mohammed Kudus, who calmly slotted the ball past Dupire to seal a comfortable victory for the Black Stars.

The win sees Ghana sitting comfortably at the summit of Group I with 15 points, five ahead of Madagascar.

However, Comoros, currently in fourth place with nine points, has a game in hand which could see them leapfrog the Malagasy.

Looking ahead, Ghana will face crucial qualifying matches against Chad and Mali in September. Positive results in those encounters could all but guarantee the Black Stars’ place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

This dominant performance in Morocco marks a significant step forward in their qualification journey, fuelled by the brilliance of Jordan Ayew.
