Ghana Judo elects new leadership

The Ghana Judo Association (GJA) has ushered in a fresh leadership team following its General Delegates Congress at the Accra Sports Stadium’s Media Centre on Saturday, 28 July.

Kenneth Arthur, running unopposed, was elected as president for the next four years, with Mavis Abbey securing the vice president role.

The newly appointed executives include Kojo Twum Baah as treasurer, Kwesi Adu Apau as general secretary, and Eben Ofei Dodoo and Paa Kofi Ewool as executive members.

A call for unity and athlete-focused development

Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) President Richard Akpokavie, who attended the event, urged the judo community to rally behind the new leadership.

“In sports administration and management, it is the athletes that matter,” Akpokavie emphasised. “Everything possible must be done to make the players comfortable so that they can perform.”

Ambitious plans for Ghanaian judo

Newly elected GJA President Kenneth Arthur outlined his vision, targeting major international competitions.

He told the media that he and his team is focused on producing athletes to represent the nation at the next Youth Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games and other continental championships

He also appealed for corporate sponsorship and media support to elevate the sport’s profile.

What’s next for Ghana judo?

With fresh leadership in place, the GJA is set to focus on talent development, international representation, and securing funding to boost grassroots programmes.
