Ghana appoints LOC to steer Accra’s 2025 African swimming championships
A seven-member Local Organising Committee (LOC) has been officially inaugurated to oversee the 2025 Zone 2 Junior and Senior Swimming Championships, set to take place in Accra from 3-5 October 2025.
The committee, tasked with ensuring a successful event, is chaired by Dr. Frederick Boamah, with Seth Nti as secretary.
Other members include Ayishatu Farida Iddriss, Mohammed Aputeog, Hubert Leo Mensah (representing the National Sports Authority), Elizabeth Addae, and Aba Kantu.
Speaking at the inauguration, Dr. Boamah said: “It is both an honour to accept this responsibility on my behalf and on behalf of my other committee members.”
“To be asked to lead is to be asked to serve and we are very much aware of the responsibilities that have been trusted to us. We pledged to do our best.”
A platform for West & Central Africa’s swimmers
The championships will bring together top junior and senior swimmers from across West and Central Africa, offering a high-level competition and a developmental platform for emerging talent in the region.
The event also highlights Ghana’s growing reputation as a host for international sports competitions, reinforcing its position as a key hub for aquatic sports development in Africa.
Why this matters
The competition will boost Ghana’s sports tourism, attracting athletes, officials, and spectators while providing an economic lift.
It will also showcase local talent, as Ghanaian swimmers compete against the region’s best, and strengthen regional ties among African swimming federations.
With preparations now underway, Accra is set to deliver a world-class swimming championship in 2025.
